Why not plastic?

Over time, the sword has continued to develop through advances in design, production, and metallurgy. Now it is time for the waster to advance as well. Our European ancestors used materials that were readily available to them to make their wasters, and modern wasters are made the same way. The difference is that now there are many more options available, like Brazilian Cherry, or Purple Heart. We believe that if our ancestors had access to plastic, they would have definitely used it.

Plastic offers many advantages over wood for making wasters. While being similarly priced as wooden wasters, plastic can give year after year of reliable service, making them more cost effective. With plastic there is virtually no maintenance involved, there is no need for sanding or oiling!

Plastic is safer as it will not crack or splinter, and plastic flexes and gives more than wood does. This minimizes the wood on wood "bounce" that happens so often during training.

Plastic wasters are more realistic than wood. Plastic wasters flex and slide more like steel swords giving them a more accurate feel. This helps with the interpretation of the texts and manuals that we learn from.

For the beginner, this quality, economical waster is a must for any student of the sword. A waster that acts more like steel, while being safer.

To the Serious Renaissance Martial Artist, this is the training tool you’ve been looking for. Plastic is a logical choice, giving a realistic feel for easier and more accurate interpretation and learning, and giving you a long lasting, durable, and economical waster.

To the Traditionalist, if our ancestors had plastic available to use, they would have. Don’t knock it till you try it!
