Places worth going are: Enoshima, the beaches, skateboard park, etc
Fujisawa is located next to Yokohama. It is about an hour trip from Tokyo by JR Tohkaidou line or Odakyu line from Shinjuku.
It has a very famouse beach, called Shonan beach It is a long beach that consists of many different names. The one I always
go is Kugenuma Kaigan (beach). There are many surfers all year, and too many during the summer. In summer, many people
visit here, so it is a happening place, especially on the nite of Enoshima firework display in July. People get really drunk and
become happy and friendly. Japanese people are usually shy but during festivals, people are the same every where in the universe.
In Japanes festival, including fireworks display, people wear traditional close, such as Yukata or Jinbee. It is really neat. Also,
there are lots of temporary 'summer house' on the beach during the summer that sells basically food or sweets, etc. At night,
people do fireworks where you can buy at a convenience store, and it is legal here. It is our tradition.
In winter, the beach gets quiet but nice. I enjoy taking my dog there. Also, the air is so clear during winter, you can see the sun
sets over the Mt. Fuji, which is quite nice.
Apart from these, the number of foreigners here are small, but it is getting more and more I feel. I think it has a lot to do with the
fact that all the major English conversation schools are here, such as Nova. There are apartments only for Nova teachers. I heard
a few years ago that Fujisawa has the most number of Nova teachers in Japan... well if you go out in downtown some nights, you
will definitely see someone who seems like the teacher.
Anyway, I'm glad that more foreigners come to Japan and Fujisawa, and experience its culture. If you are thinking of coming over
here, I'm more than welcome to help you out.
