Welcome to the Northern California JSA Website

Democracy is not a spectator sport

Welcome To JSA

This year in California, and in the nation, promises to be an exciting one, with a presidential election and a host of controversial issues in mind with our primary moved to February. One of these pressing issues of our time is the topic of violence. Our second one-day event this year, An Eye for An Eye: Is America Blind?, deals with just that. It will be held at the Valley Life Sciences Building at UC Berkeley on October 27th. We will discuss issues such as gun control and gang violence to provide a forum for dialogue and debate. This conference is a great way to promote JSA at your school and I encourage you to invite any other students who are interested in JSA or want to find out more about it.

Our host of exciting fall events will culminate with Fall State 2007, entitled America Split Down the Aisle. In a nation divided over issues ranging from universal healthcare to shutting down Iran’s nuclear program, it is increasingly important for us to examine how and if we, as the youth of this country, can forge consensus and discover a unified voice. Enclosed in this mailing you will find Fall State brochures – please start recruiting interested members of your school early and contact the JSA office in San Mateo at 800.334.5353 if you would like more brochures to distribute.

If you are interested in debating or moderating at any of our events, please contact me. If you have any questions about transportation or logistics, please call our Program Director David Beiser at 800.334.5353.

I wish you a successful JSA year!

      Sincerely,

      Anne-Marie Mitchell
