The Flute Band News bandwagon actually took to the road on Sunday, when we were guests of the Cambuslang Britannia Flute Band and the Sons of Ulster Flute Band. |

Cambuslang Britannia Flute Band, 03/11/02
On Sunday afternoon (3/11/02) we were present at the 3rd Sash Bash of the Cambuslang Britannia Flute Band held at Cambuslang. What an afternoon we had. The proceedings were started with the excellent Carol Paris entertaining us all with some songs. The highlight of the day. The Cambuslang Britannia Flute Band took the stage. An excellent performance they gave us all. Beautiful rendition of Highland Cathedral was performed. The drum section was extremely good. No mistakes. The stand in bass drummer did well also. The flute section was spot on! After the band had finished we were all entertained by an excellent group from Belfast, This Way Up. Excellent day was had. It is unfortunate that we could not stay for the full afternoons proceedings but as the band where aware we had to make our exit to attend another function. We were made extremely welcome by the Officers, Members and friends of 'The Brits' and we will be returning for next years Sash Bash. To you all thank you for such a wonderful time. |

Sons of Ulster Flute Band, Glasgow
On Sunday, 3 November, I was honoured to attend the Sons of Ulster Rememberance dinner. This dinner was held in honour of their friend, Noel Kinner, No.5 Platoon Ulster Volunteer Force. What an excellent night I had. Thank you to the Officers and Members of the Sons of Ulster for such nice hospitality and friendship shown towards me. The night began with a lone piper playing some laments. Then the fabulous Noel Large entertained us all with some excellent songs. If you've not heard Noel then you are missing an excellent singer, with an, almost haunting voice. Then the band took to the stage and played a very good set of tunes. I sat there in a trance watching and listening to this fabulous band. To see the Sons of Ulster play is a honour. This band has got to be one of the top three bands on the Loyalist circuit at the present moment. The style, decorum, dignity and honour that this band presented themselves is a credit to the Loyalist cause. I only wish more bands could take a leaf ou of their book. The night eneded with the fabulous This way Up entertaining us all. Superb, and I got to see them twice in one day! |
