IMPERIAL BLUES FLUTE BAND, PAISLEY.
The Imperial Blues Flute Band, or as they are more commonly known, The Imperial Army, are from Paisley in Scotland. Formed in 1987 the band have got to be one of the finest Blood and Thunder bands on the Scottish Loyalist stage today.
In the early days the band recorded a cassette called "Jive Blues Paisley", the band have now gone all hi-tech and re-released this on CD format. In my eyes this has got to be one of the finest Blood & Thunder recordings in the last 20 years. If you have not heard this recording, why not? The drumming is exceptional on this recording, just check out track 5 "Thunder Drum Solo". The fluting on this recording is of a high standard, more than I can say about the singing on Glory Glory (ha, ha, ha). To listen to quality flute playing listen to track 8, "Black Beauty". Pure class!
The Imperial Army and The Red Hand
Since the formation of the band in 1987 the band have done many parades over the water in Ulster, Belfast to be precise. In the late 1980's the band were invited over by No.10 District, Ballenafeigh. For those of you that don't know, Ballenafeigh is a small district of Belfast, situated to the south east of the city. On the twelfth of July No.10 District holds one of the most contentious parades in Belfast. This is because part of the parade route that they take takes them onto the Lower Ormeau Road, which is a Nationalist/Republican area. What people must remember about the Lower Ormeau Road is that it is one of the main routes into the city centre of Belfast. The route taken by No.10 District, a route which the District have taken for years, is under constant scrutiny from the Parades Commission.
The band have made some great friends in Belfast. They have also lost some great friends. One of these friends being Joe Bratty. Joe Bratty was killed by the enimies of Ulster on 31st July 1994 on the Ormeau Road. Each year on the weekend closest to the anniversary of Joe Bratty's death a memorial service is held by his graveside. At this memorial service a member of the Imperial Blues Flute Band is present.
While in Belfast the band have formed strong links with Drumderg Loyalists Flute band from Keady. The bands main commitments are taken up by parading with No.6 District of the Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland. Here they mainly parade with either Loyal Orange Lodge 4 or Loyal Orange Lodge 201.
The band also take part in a number of band parades around Scotland. Where they parade with honour, dignity and respect.
"We understand the problems that the Portadown Orangemen at Drumcree have had to endure, so we say to all Loyalists, UNITED WE STAND. Wether it be on the Ormeau Road, Drumcree Hill or any other area in which they are trying to re-route our right to march on the Queen's highway, NEVER GIVE IN"
