British TV defends China artist eating baby
LatelineNews: 2002-12-30] LONDON - A British television
station on
Monday defended a show in which a Chinese performance
artist apparently
eats a dead baby, calling it a "thought-provoking film
about extreme art
in China."
Channel 4, which upset viewers with a dissection of a human
corpse last
month, plans to air the documentary in which artist Zhu Yu
shows off
photographs of himself washing a dead stillborn baby in a
sink and
putting its dismembered parts in his mouth.
Politicians and media critics have condemned the plans but
the
Broadcasting Standards Commission said it could not address
a programme
before it was shown.
In a preview provided to Reuters, Zhu is also shown having
a piece of
his own body grafted onto a pig. He describes his work as
expressing his
Christian faith, saying: "Jesus is always related to
death, blood,
wounds, etc."
The show's presenter, a Sunday Times newspaper art critic,
calls the
work "suffering for your art on a messianic
scale."
He added: "I expected to be horrified by him, but I
found him peaceful,
monastic and even charming. When the cameras were switched
off he
admitted he'd vomited twice before going through his baby
performance.
But it was crucial to do it, so he forced himself."
The presenter, who interviews the artist in his apartment,
calls him
"China's most notorious contemporary cannibal,"
and says he actually ate
the baby's flesh.
A spokesman for Channel 4 said the programme, which airs on
Thursday at
11:00 p.m. (GMT), will carry warnings that viewers may be
alarmed and
noted the hour complies with rules banning material
unsuitable for
children before 9:00 p.m.
"The images appear in the context of an intelligent
and
thought-provoking film about extreme art in China," he
said. Reuters

Man held after protest over baby-eating show
LONDON (Reuters)
A man has been arrested for daubing white paint on the
walls of a television network in protest against a show in
which a Chinese artist apparently ate a dead baby. Martin
Wyness, a 45-year-old father of two, told Reuters he had
driven through the night to London from the countryside to
express his outrage at the graphic documentary on Chinese art,
which he had seen broadcast just before midnight on Thursday.
The documentary, Beijing Swings, featured Chinese artist Zhu
Yu, describing him as "China's most notorious
contemporary cannibal".
In one scene, Zhu showed off photographs of himself washing
a stillborn baby in a sink and putting its dismembered parts
in his mouth as a work of performance art. "I've got a
big brush, and white emulsion," Wyness said before his
graffiti protest on Friday. "Channel 4 told the nation
that being disrespectful is an art happening, and so I am
going to follow their lead." A spokesman for London
police said a 45-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion
of criminal damage after he was found painting graffiti on
Channel 4's walls. He was still in custody.
A Channel 4 spokesman said it stood by its
"intelligent, thought-provoking film about the extreme
art scene in China", although viewers' concerns would be
taken into account. He said the station had received 50
complaints before the screening and 15 since. The programme
carried warnings that viewers might be alarmed by its content.
Zhu told Reuters in Beijing on Thursday it was his duty as an
artist to spark debate about morality and art. Britain's
Broadcasting Standards Commission said it had received half a
dozen complaints by email overnight. It would request a copy
of the tape and put the issue to a panel although its power
over programming was limited, a spokesman said.
Parents' horror at school show [Northern Ireland]
Belfast Telegraph ^ | 01-01-03 | staff
PARENTS have complained after the traditional Christmas
nativity play was
ditched at a Co Down primary school this year in favor of a
cult adult show.
Instead of the usual stable scenes, youngsters took part in
a version of the
Rocky Horror show.
Eyebrows were raised as nine and ten-year-olds at St Mary's
Primary in
Newcastle vamped it up in the controversial cross-dressing
extravaganza.
Staff said they had "no problem" with putting on
the raunchy musical.
It was claimed that the highpoint of the performance saw
two boys dressed in
skirts embrace one another.
The topic of homosexuality was also discussed with the
children as they
prepared for rehearsals.
However, some furious mums and dads said they were
disgusted by "grossly
inappropriate costumes being used by children".
One mother, whose ten-year-old son took part, said most
parents had been
unaware of the content of the play before seeing it.
"I did not expect boys in short skirts and
stilettos," she said.
"This was not an appropriate show for children to
watch never mind perform
in. It was not only revolting but anti-Christian."
Principal Darina Flanagan said, however, that she was not
prepared to answer
to anonymous criticisms.
A spokesman for the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools
said it was
important children learned to become good citizens.
"Children need to learn about homosexuality so they
don't become bigots. But
maybe the Rocky Horror Show was the wrong vehicle to do
this."
SDLP councilor Carmel O'Boyle, who is on the school's board
of governors,
said she was unaware of any complaints.

CHINA BLOWS UP HUNDREDS OF "ILLEGAL" CHURCHES
[January 2001]
The Daily Telegraph (London) has reported that Chinese
authorities in Wenzhou
have torn down or blown up more than 200 illegal churches
and temples. A
further 239 small places of worship in the east coast
city, many of them
linked to the underground Roman Catholic church, have
been forced to close.
China's millions of underground Christians, especially
those who have defied
Beijing to remain loyal to the Pope, face a bleak
Christmas as a campaign
against illegal worship of all varieties coincides with a
crisis in
China's relations with the wider Christian world.
"In the past week, I have
received several reports from China that bishops and
priests have been
detained by police, and I am now trying to authenticate
them," said Joseph
Kung, head of the American-based Cardinal Kung
Foundation, which
monitors the underground Catholic church in China.
"Probably this is the beginning of the crackdown for
the Christmas season.
All these important feast days, like Christmas and
Easter, they always crack
down."
The underground churches demolished were not established
church
buildings, Mr Kung said, but were often private homes
where Christians
unwilling to worship in "official" churches
gathered in secret for prayers
and services.
This autumn, China reacted with fury to the Pope's
decision to canonise
120 Catholic martyrs on Oct 1, China's National Day.
Most of the martyrs were killed in 1900 by the Boxers,
fanatics whom Beijing
calls patriotic heroes.China called the new saints a
collection of notorious
criminals and rapists. Christianity, especially
Catholicism, has
traditionally
been regarded as a foreign,
"imperialist" import, in a note of fierce
nationalism underlying the atheist Communist dislike of all religion.
Frank Lu, director of the Hong Kong-based Information Centre for Human
Rightsand Democratic Movement in China, said last night that the latest
campaign
against religion in Wenzhou, in the eastern province of Zhejiang,
had begun in August, and intensified in recent weeks. "Wenzhou is an
important centre of Chinese Catholicism," said Mr Lu.
Wenzhou, a boom town of shoe factories, sweatshops and dealers in pirate
goods, has a long history of Christianity because of its trading links with
the outside world.
Last year, Wenzhou police arrested three leading members of the
underground Roman Catholic Church. Those detained included an
81-year-old bishop, Lin Xili.
The places of worship closed and demolished in Wenzhou were reported to
include Buddhist and Taoist temples as well as Catholic and Protestant
churches. Officials admitted blowing up Catholic establishments in
neighbouring Fujian province last summer.
The 449 centres that were targets of the latest campaign, running since
mid-November, had all failed to register with the State Administration for
Religious Affairs, officials said.
Religious worship, though protected by the constitution, must be
"patriotic",
and can take place only in establishments under the control of the
Communist Party.

A British TV company has shown a film called The Second Coming which
is blasphemous from start to finish.
It was shown in two parts on successive evenings. A brief description:
Part 1 -
It is set in Manchester in the north of England.
A young man, Steve Baxter, has been to a disco, kisses his girlfriend Judith
in the street when suddenly he looks upwards and something changes in him. He
is found 6 weeks later wandering the Yorkshire moors, having been there for 40
days, eating moss. He is knocked down by a car and tells the driver he is the
Son of God.
In hospital a priest takes his photograph and delivers it to the Vatican.
They then arrange with the British government to have him sent to Rome under
police guard.
He does not go, saying that he wants the last day to himself before his work
begins. He goes to the pub [bar] instead.
He is portrayed as swearing a great deal, very ill mannered, but pleasant.
His father [who later discovers himself to have been infertile since birth]
tells us that he divorced Steve's mother because she was mad, seeing and
hearing things all the time and being religious.
Steve goes to a football stadium and with a large crowd there he doesn't
know what to do. He puts on sunglasses and suddenly there is daylight but only
in the stadium, all the rest of the city is in darkness. International TV shows
this all over the world. The first 'miracle'. He later refuses to heal the
sick, tells them that there is to be a Third Testament but he doesn't know what
it is so he asks everyone in the world to write one, which they do.
He is arrested for his own protection and escapes. Meeting his friends in
the pub someone bombs them, but while the enormous blast blows the pub apart in
a huge fireball, we see them all still at the table unharmed, the second
'miracle'.
He agrees with a homosexual that homosexuality is 'OK'. Many individuals in
the play are shown with odd gleaming eyes to show us they are devils.
Part 2 - the battle between good and evil continues with devils everywhere
trying to upset Steve's plans. The crowds are screaming for Steve, and he tells
people that there is to be a Third Testament and if that doesn't come about it
will be Judgement Day. Steve has appointed his friends and is father as his
apostles. They are kept in a locked building for two or three days while they
wait for Judgement Day. Meanwhile the world is in chaos, going mad with fear
and rioting. Martial Law is declared. The devil announces to Judith [an
apostle] that he wants Steve to go to hell and rule in hell and this is his
plan, that the son of God will be cast out by his own Father.
Steve meanwhile has fallen in love with Judith and we see them in bed
together. The conversation next morning is
Judith - Do you love
me?
Steve - Yeah
Judith - Are you the son of God?
Steve - Yeah
A lot of things happen, including the death of his apostle Peter as Steve's
father kills Peter while trying to shoot Steve.
Finally we see Judith, cooking pasta with a large dose of rat poison in it.
She calls Steve to come to her house which he does. She gives him the pasta and
a can of beer, tells him it's the Third Testament and she is writing it, that
the food has rat poison and he has to die.
He uses his power to find out if she is correct, eats it and dies.
The last five minutes or so is explaining that, as she explained to Steve,
if she kills him she kills God, there is no more God, no more devils, only
people making their own decisions. Somehow after that the world goes on
peacefully, without God.
It's a weird story, maybe confusing to understand as it was very complicated
to write down, but it shows that the arrival of God on earth causes them too
much trouble so they decide they are better off on their own.
The film lasted about three hours and was very action packed. In the end
while the churches accepted Steve was who he said and the people wanted him, it
caused riots and instability and they killed him!

An unspeakably vicious act of hatred and contempt for Jesus
Christ and for Christianity was performed in Las Vegas on
January 13th of this year. It was done on stage in public.
To quote the Las Vegas Review-Journal of February 8th:
"Penn Gillette entered a Riviera convention hall dressed as
a Roman centurian and was followed by a cart covered by a large
sheet. After Gillette delivered a few one-liners . . a sheet was
removed from the cart, revealing Teller, who appeared to be on a
life-sized cross, naked from the waistdown. A diminutive man
appeared to be simulating oral sex on Teller."
To the management - is this your idea of humour? It is a
total disgrace and deeply offensive to all Christians. My
organisation has been informed of this by a member and on behalf
of all our members I ask you to disown these people and their
evil and very sick humour. They must not be allowed to continue
in this way.

NEW PC VIDEO GAME
KILLING PRIESTS, GAYS, COPS, MUSLIMS AND ANIMALS:
A new PC video game, “Postal 2,” is selling out across the
nation. The sequel to “Postal,” the new action game allows the
player to be “Postal Dude,” a character who kills anything in
sight. The player can blow a priest’s head off with a shotgun
and kick the bleeding head around the street like a soccer
ball. It is also possible to wait in line for confession or
kill everyone, including the priest, in the church.
Gays and lesbians can be killed (there is a “Fag Hunter”
arcade), cops can be decapitated, Muslims can be shot, dogs
can be set on fire and kittens can have their rectums blown to
bits. It is also possible to urinate in a person’s mouth and
watch him vomit.
Weapons of choice are abundant: shovels, tazers, rotting
cow heads, pistols, shotguns, gasoline cans, rocket launchers,
napalm launchers, Molotov cocktails, scissors, etc.
