» USY Info
USY, which stands for United Synagogue Youth, is a nationwide program for kids in grades 5-12. It's split up into different regions; for example, Brockton USY is part of NERUSY, New England Region USY. Each region has individual chapters, one for each area or even town. Brockton USY is one of NERUSY's chapters. Each chapter is divided into age groups; Kadima is for kids in grades 5-6, Junior USY is for kids in grades 7-8, and Senior USY is for kids in grades 9-12. Throughout the USY Season, there are numerous events. Chapters can have individual events that are just for their chapter, or even individual events for each age group. Some chapters will get together with another chapter for an event; for example the Brockton and Sharon chapters have had in ice skating event together. There are also regional events, usually a few in each year, where all of the chapters get together for a weekend of activities.
Over the Summer, there's a NERUSY camp, Encampment, for grades 8 and above. This is a week-long program held at Camp Ramah in Palmer, Massachusetts. This past Summer, almost 200 USYers from across New England gathered together for activities, a Color War (called Maccabiah), services, ruach, and fun.
All through the year, USY has a lot to offer for Jewish kids of many ages. It's an amazing experience.
